The co-op problem nobody talks about
In co-op, one player keeps the world on their own computer. When they close the game, the world disappears for everyone. Nobody else can join and progress stops. The world only exists while the host is playing.
That works for two friends with the same schedule. For a bigger group, people playing at different hours or someone who wants to play solo sometimes, it breaks down quickly.
A dedicated server runs around the clock, no matter who is online. The world is always there. Someone can log in at 2 AM to farm materials alone. Someone else can play for an hour while the "world owner" is at work. The world keeps moving forward.
What changes technically
When the world runs on a player's PC, that PC runs both the game and the server at the same time. Resources are split: the CPU and memory handle graphics and world simulation together. On a dedicated server, all resources go to the world, which runs smoother and handles more players without dropping.
Valheim's simulation is not light. An explored map with several bases, portals, farms and enemies spawning at once puts real load on a server. A dedicated server sized for your group handles all of it without the stutter you get in co-op.
Mods with BepInEx
Valheim mods run on BepInEx, a framework that loads them when the server starts. On a dedicated server many mods run server-side and apply to all players automatically.
Popular mods like Valheim Plus let you change the rules (carry weight, death penalty, what goes through portals, crop growth) for the whole group from one config file. In co-op that is hard, because everyone would need the same settings.
World backups
A dedicated server saves your world regularly. If someone wrecks your base or a file gets corrupted, you go back to a recent copy. In co-op the world lives on one computer: if that PC dies or the save corrupts, everything is gone.
Valheim at Wiptor
Wiptor Valheim servers are always online, include world backups and full BepInEx mod support. Your group plays whenever it wants, without agreeing who starts the game first.
