Gaming, Storage, High Memory or High CPU VPS: what is the real difference?

Why there are several VPS types

An all-round VPS is a compromise: CPU, RAM and storage in equal parts, without excelling at anything. For many projects that is perfect.

But many projects are not balanced. A game server wants a fast CPU. A file server wants lots of space. A big database wants lots of RAM.

VPS types exist so resources match what you run, instead of forcing every project into the same configuration.

Gaming VPS: for speed and low ping

Gaming VPS plans focus on a fast CPU and the network. Game servers are sensitive to delay and often use a single core, so the speed of each core matters more than how many you have. DDoS protection is part of the package, not an extra.

Good for: game servers you want to configure yourself, Discord bots, real-time apps, APIs where every millisecond counts.

Not for: dozens of websites, very large databases, backups.

Storage VPS: for lots of space

Storage VPS plans give you far more NVMe space per euro than the other types. CPU and RAM are enough for storage-heavy projects, but they are not the highlight.

Good for: hosting 20 to 50 websites, database servers, backups, media libraries, web agency infrastructure.

Not for: game servers that need maximum CPU, or compute-heavy apps.

High Memory VPS: for lots of RAM

High Memory VPS plans have a lot of RAM compared to CPU and storage. They suit projects that keep data in memory: Redis, busy PostgreSQL or MySQL databases, Java apps with large heaps, data processing.

Good for: in-memory databases, large relational databases, caching, Java applications.

Not for: regular web hosting or standard game servers.

High CPU VPS: for heavy computing

High CPU VPS plans have many cores: up to 12. They suit compiling, video processing, apps that run many things in parallel or large servers with many processes.

Quick choice

  • Fast response, low ping: Gaming VPS
  • Lots of space, many sites or databases: Storage VPS
  • Lots of RAM for in-memory data: High Memory VPS
  • Many cores for computing: High CPU VPS
  • Small budget, light projects: ECO VPS

Wiptor VPS

Every Wiptor VPS comes with DDoS protection, NVMe storage and full root access, in Germany or France. The only difference between them is how resources are split, not the quality of the server.
