Why run your own web hosting on a VPS instead of shared hosting?

The problem with shared hosting

Shared hosting puts your site on the same server as hundreds or thousands of others. When a neighbour runs a badly written PHP script or gets a traffic spike, your site slows down too. You have no control over the server, cannot install software, have no root access and no real isolation.

For a hobby site that is fine. For anything you care about (a business, a portfolio, a client's site), shared hosting is a compromise that gets more frustrating over time.

What a VPS gives you

A VPS is your own virtual machine: CPU cores, RAM and disk that are yours alone. What others do on the same physical machine does not affect your performance. You have root access, so you install exactly what you need, configure it your way and run as many sites as your resources allow.

The difference in control is not small, it is a different level.

Why a Storage VPS for web hosting

Web hosting reads a lot from disk: PHP files, settings, database records, images. Storage speed directly decides how fast pages load.

Storage VPS plans have lots of NVMe space as their main resource. More space at high speed means more sites, databases and content without hitting limits. On a typical Storage VPS you can comfortably run:

  • 20 to 50 WordPress sites, each with its own database
  • a mail server for several domains
  • a test copy of every site
  • nightly automatic backups of all databases

On shared hosting each new site often means another subscription. On a VPS a new site takes two minutes and costs nothing extra.

The maths works out sooner than you think

A Storage VPS has a fixed monthly cost. Every extra site, domain and database runs on the same machine at no extra cost. If you build sites for clients, the calculation is simple: two or three clients pay for the VPS, and the rest is profit.

Is it complicated to set up?

Honestly: it takes more work at the start than "install WordPress" on shared hosting. You install a web server, configure sites, set up SSL and manage a few services. It is not hard if you follow a clear guide, but it is more than one click.

That is why we wrote a complete step-by-step guide, from an empty VPS to multi-site hosting with SSL, automatic renewal and proper security.
